Rayen & Wood Finance
Of the two names above, we can finance one. Wood we know a fair amount about - harvesters, forwarders, skidders and the trucks that take it off the hill. Rayen we have no product for, and we did look.
- Same-day approvals available
- FMA-licensed adviser (FSP1008126)
- 100% New Zealand owned
The half we can help with
Forestry is one of the larger things New Zealand does and one of the harder ones to finance well, because the income does not arrive the way a lender's default assumptions expect. A crew can go months between payments and then bill a quarter's work at once, which reads as instability to anyone assessing on the last three months.
We arrange finance for the machinery either way - felling and extraction gear, loaders, chippers, and the trucks and trailers that move the product. New, used, at auction or imported.
Seasonal and irregular income
Farming and contracting income does not arrive in twelve equal instalments, and finance priced as though it does puts pressure on exactly the months that are already tight.
Several of our lenders will structure repayments around a season, a harvest or a contract, including deferred first payments and irregular schedules. If your income is lumpy, tell us when it actually lands and we will work to that rather than to a calendar.
Financing forestry equipment
Hours and condition decide this, not the year on the plate. Forestry machines work in conditions that are punishing even by plant standards, so a well-maintained older harvester with a full service record will often finance better than a newer one nobody can account for. Bring the service history if you have it - it is worth more to a lender than the odometer.
Structure the term around the contract rather than around a standard schedule. If a machine is bought for a specific harvest or a specific block, a lender who understands that will build the repayments to match, and one who does not will price it as though the income were a salary.
If you already own machines outright, there is usually equity in them that can fund the next purchase. That is an ordinary arrangement rather than a sign of trouble, and it frequently beats borrowing the whole amount against the new machine alone.
All lending is subject to lender assessment and approval.
My income is seasonal. Does that count against me?
Not with the right lender. Several on our panel assess on annual turnover rather than the last three months, which matters a great deal if you happen to apply during a quiet stretch between harvests. Say so at the start - it changes which lender the application should go to, and that is most of the job.
Can I get finance approved before an auction?
Yes, and you should. Knowing your ceiling before you bid is worth considerably more than arranging finance afterwards, and forestry gear moves at auction often enough that it is worth having in place.
Is a sawmill different to mobile plant?
Yes. Fixed plant installed in a building is assessed differently to a machine that can be driven onto a truck, because what a lender can recover differs. Tell us which you are buying and we will point it at lenders who do that kind rather than the other.
What sets us apart
Financing through us means independence, transparency and a person who answers the phone - instead of a finance desk with targets to hit.
Dynamic Finance
An independent broker working for you
- A panel of lenders, so the options compete for your business.
- Rates and terms matched to your situation, not one lender's product sheet.
- One adviser from application through to payout.
- Private and dealer purchases handled the same way.
Dealership finance
The finance desk down the hall
- Usually one lender, or a small panel you never see.
- Finance margin is part of the deal being negotiated.
- Handed between salesperson, finance manager and lender.
- Tied to the vehicle on their lot.
